EU Challenges in the 21st Century

Rubén Ruiz

How will be the European Union in 2020 or 2030? In a changing world which tends towards greater plurality of centres of power, the growing power of groups of countries to the detriment of the sovereign state, European citizens will need the global solutions of the EU. There will be more Europe and more people will be identified with the European Union. To the outside world, the EU has to remain committed to "soft power", and the European External Action Service should serve to ensure coherence and effectiveness of EU foreign policy.

Susana de Valentin

The term of Russia comes from Rossia, a Greek word used in the Byzantine Empire to refer to the Kievan Russia, i.e. the first germ of the Russian state founded in the ninth century by the first settlers eastern Slavs. So far away and unknown to many, Russia is an energy and geostrategic superpower and very importantly in the field of international relations. It is a country that has a great influence in making vital decisions to the interest of the international community and plays an important role in the political, economic and military agenda of the major global forums.

The Arctic and its international system of governance: the Arctic Council

Susana de Valentin

The term of Arctic comes from the Greek word arktos, meaning bear, referring to the constellations Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, both located near Polaris, which is the bright spot more visible and closer to Polo North. This meaning, at the same time, is also motivated by the presence of white polar animals in the region, as the type in the picture. But, what more we can know about the Arctic? Are government interests and international conflicts in this area? What kind of decisions is being taken by the states and what are the countries involved in this task? Is there any king of international governance which all matters relating to the region bordering the north pole of our planet are subjected to it? Yes, there is one. It is called the Arctic Council.

Israel: History and Present. Relations with Spain (Part I)

Susana de Valentin

Introduction

First, we must clarify certain terms as a point of departure. Israel, which translated from Hebrew, means someone who fought against God and won him, is the name given to Jacob, a descendant of Abraham, patriarch of Israel and father of multitude nations, after batting a mysterious angel. From him, twelve children were born, so-called twelve tribes of Israel, the Israelites or early generations of ancestors of the Israeli people. Jew is anyone who descends from the tribe of Judah, one of the sons of Jacob, a name which was used, however, for all the children and descendants of all the tribes, their religion and its practitioner. Israeli is the national of the current and modern State of Israel, founded in 1948.

Introduction to the International Relations

European Youth Diplomacy Group

International relations are as old as the states, being these its main protagonists and supporters. International relations have a point of departure in the socio-political context of the sixteenth century. At this time the new theories of the modern state arise and a new configuration of political-administrative system in Western Europe appeared, as well as the source of European diplomacy, whose epicenter was enshrined in the so-called Westphalian State, i.e. the political community and territorial sovereignty.
